Alvor is a pretty Portuguese fishing town that has evolved responsibly into a relaxed and mature holiday destination. The town is situated on the banks of the Odiáxere River and within walking distance of one of the largest sandy beaches of southern Portugal. Alvor has a distinctive Portuguese appearance with traditional whitewashed houses, narrow cobbled streets, and small fishing boats that are pulled up along the river banks. The town centre is filled with restaurants, cafes, and bars for all styles and tastes.
But, here you also have some of the finest beaches of the Western Algarve with the unique elevated walkways that cross the sand dunes and mudflats of the Ria de Alvor Nature Reserve. These pathways provide pleasant walks with scenic views over the estuary, which is a haven for bird life.
From Alvor it's just a short drive to visit the towns of Portimão with Aqua Shopping Center, the historic centre of Lagos and to Praia da Rocha - the place to be for a night party, as this place is crammed with theme bars and late night venues.
